Jack Cheng, self-confessed jack of all trades, has written an important article about branded utility brands that actually mean and do something beyond entertainment. Its more than engagement and what he calls brand ephemera. Cheng argues that brands can progress by building in greater utility at the product level, then using that selling point as a key differentiator.
